uniform experiment
Founded in Japan in 2008, uniform experiment was created by Hirofumi Kiyonaga of SOPH. together with Hiroshi Fujiwara of fragment design. The brand was built around a simple idea: reinterpreting the concept of the everyday men’s “uniform.”
Rather than creating traditional uniforms, uniform experiment takes familiar menswear such as blazers, military jackets, shirts, trousers, and knitwear, then adds unexpected details through graphics, color, materials, and cultural references.
Military influences have always played an important role in the brand. Concepts such as U.E. NAVY reflect its interest in functional clothing, while bold graphics and unusual color combinations give the pieces a more contemporary streetwear feel.
Hiroshi Fujiwara’s influence also helped connect uniform experiment with music, art, design, and Japanese street culture. Over the years, the brand has collaborated with artists and other creative projects while maintaining a balance between classic menswear and experimental fashion.
Today, uniform experiment remains one of Japan’s most recognizable contemporary menswear labels. Its identity is based on transforming familiar clothing into something modern, practical, and slightly unexpected.
